FIND THE UGLY DUCKLING

The Ugly Duckling is set in a beautiful spot by the River Nidd in Knaresborough at the end of the Municipal Car Park.

When you arrive in Knaresborough, you will find we are conveniently located for visitors to pop in and enjoy a coffee and a slice of cake, or something a little more substantial, before heading into town and exploring the beautiful area of Knaresborough.

We are an ideal starting or finishing point for walkers and a convenient stopping off point for cyclists. We are a dog-friendly coffee shop, so you are welcome to bring your four-legged-friend to our tearoom!

Grandpa Greene’s Ice Cream Shop

The Ugly Duckling is excited to have opened our new ice cream parlor within our tearooms! We have a wide range of award-winning, luxury ice cream flavours to choose from in either a waffle cone or an edible eco-friendly wafer bowl. As well as ice cream we will be selling soft drinks, Walls ice cream lollies, Scoops dog ice cream, and crisps.

Why Grandpa Greene’s?

“Back in the 1920’s Grandpa Greene made his own ice cream, using a churn in the backyard of his corner shop in Salford. Today at Grandpa Greene’s we have taken his basic recipe and developed it into a luxury ice cream, handmade the old-fashioned way”.

Opening hours:

Our shop will be open Tuesday – Sunday 10 am-5 pm.

We will be open on weekends, bank holidays, and school holidays.

Idyllic Location

We are a large bright tearoom with fantastic views of the River Nidd, which is home to boating in the summer months.

Everyone Welcome

Everyone is welcome in our tearoom, which is why we offer gluten-free and vegetarian options in our menu. We also have a children’s menu available for little ones.

Homemade Cakes

All our bakes and cakes are fresh and homemade. Why not sample a selection of our cakes and scones at afternoon tea?

Open Bank Holidays

Although we are usually closed on Mondays, we are open every bank holiday Monday so pay us a visit if you are planning a bank holiday walk in Knaresborough.
“Had a lovely lunch here after a nice walk down Waterside. I had a Chicken Caesar salad and my companion had Welsh Rarebit – both were delicious. The location is fab, staff were lovely and friendly. I will return especially as dogs are welcome.”
